Kalma House
A single-storey home designed around passive-solar performance, durability and accessibility. Kalma House uses rammed-earth external walls for thermal mass, paired with both fire-resistant and timber claddings, a metal roof, and double-glazed windows arranged to maximise natural light and cross-ventilation. Insulated walls and ceilings, low-VOC internal finishes and slip-resistant, easy-care flooring support a healthy, low-maintenance interior. The home is all-electric, powered by rooftop solar with battery storage, and uses efficient systems such as a heat-pump hot-water unit, ceiling fans and a high-efficiency air conditioner. Landscaping incorporates water-sensitive design, native planting and shading strategies to improve comfort and reduce resource use.
